The Institute Cronology Presentation Goals Cronology Board of Directors 1950 1953 First Hospital Planning course, promoted by IAB - Brazil's Institute of Architects, supported by University of São Paulo and organized by the Hospital Planning Commission, which was composed by architects Amador Cintra do Prado, Jarbas Karman and Rino Levi. After the course it was clear the need for creating an entity in which it would be possible to develop knowledge concerning Architecture and Hospital Planning; thus is born the idea of designing INPDH - The National Institute for Research and Hospital Development, currently the IPH. The course took place at: Rua Bento Freitas, 306, São Paulo, from April 13 to 18, 1953. 1954 On January 25, the year São Paulo celebrates its 400th anniversary, the Minutes of INPDH'S Foundation is taken. Firstly, the institute is located at Sociedade São Camilo's building on Pompeia avenue, São Paulo. 1954 In March the 2nd Hospital Planning course is organized in partnership with IAB - Brazil' s Institute of Architects. Venue: Museu de Arte, Rua 7 de Abril, 230. From March 22 to 27. 1955 IPH occupies a temporary headquarters on Rua Xavier de Toledo, 210, 4th floor and changes its denomination to Brazilian Institute for Hospital Research and Development. 1955 March - The first Aseptic and Sterilization Techniques course is organized. Venue: the Engineering Institute's auditorium in São Paulo, Viaduto D. Paulina, 80 - 8th floor. 1955 Hospital de Hoje first publication; a magazine addressed to architects, engineers and hospital administrators. The publication lasts until 1969 when it merges with Vida Hospitalar magazine from AHESP - Associação dos Hospitais do Estado de São Paulo. 1957 November - IPH changes its headquarters to Rua Xavier de Toledo, 210, 6th floor. 1957 November - Conference on The Current State of Cardiovascular Surgery at Naval Marcílio Dias Hospital by Dr. Edídio Guertzenstein. 1957 First courses and conferences promoted by IPH; September - The Hospital of Today and Cardio Surgery, sponsored by Anita Pastore D'Angelo Foundation's Institute of Cardiology Sabbado D'Angelo. 1958 February - Conference on Medical and Hospital Organization in Sweden by Dr. José Hortêncio Medeiros Sobrinho, in partnership with the Brazil-Sweden Cultual Centre. Venue: Institute of Engineering in São Paulo. 1958 March - Conference on the Psychological Aspects of the Hospital Life by Professor Noemi Silveira Rudolfer. Luís Antônio, 683. 1969 IPH attends the 16th International Hospital Congress in West Germany, considered one of the most important events at the time. 1970 1970 Fourth Hospital Laundry course. Venue: Escola de Enfermagem do Sanatório Santa Catarina - Av. Paulista, 200 - SP. 1973 IPH receives accreditation to design Latin America's first Hospital Administration graduation course, which the institute supports until 2007. The classes begin in February 1974 with regular courses concerning Hospital Administration and Company Administration, besides post graduation and extension courses. At first, the courses take place at Sociedade Beneficente São Camilo. 1974 After being invited by the Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas - directors, Jarbas Karman and Jayme Rosembojn are nominated IPH's spokesmen in matters related to medical and hospital supply researches. 1975 Intensive Care Nursing specialization course. Venue: Hospital Matarazzo - Alameda Rio Claro, 190 - São Paulo. From August 14 to December 12. 1977 IPH opens its own headquarters at Av. Duquesa de Goiás, 262 in partnership with AHESP. 1978-1979 IPH, through its research division, becomes a member of the Normative Board at Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas ABNT - SP. 1980 1980-2000 During this period, the Institute's activities are aimed at the Administration Course. 2000 2001 Following the prestigious Hospital de Hoje magazine, IPH launches the IPH magazine, keeping the same believes and goals, such as serving the healthcare community and being IPH's official mean of communication. 2004 May - IPH helps organizing the 24th International Seminar for the Grupo de Saúde Pública da União Internacional de Arquitetos - UIA-PHG in Brazil. 2007 The Hospital Administration graduation course is terminated; nonetheless, IPH preserves its activities within hospital development and research fields. 2008 June 2 - IPH's creator, architect Jarbas B. Karman, passes away. 2009 October - IPH - Brazilian Institute for Hospital Research and Development, changes its name to IPH - Architect Jarbas Karman Hospital Research Institute, in honor to its founder. 2010 2010 May - IPH has its own exhibition space at the Hospital Fair Forum, the 17th International Fair of Products, Equipments, Services and Technology for Hospitals, Laboratories, Pharmacies, Clinics and Practices. 2010 June - IPH moves its headquarters to Rua Vargem do Cedro, 150, Sumaré and sponsors a list of lectures and events organized by ABDEH, in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis, Brasília and Curitiba. 2011 IPH publishes the book Manutenção e Segurança Hospitalar Preditivas by archictect Jarbas Karman, at the Fair Forum, the 18th International Fair of Products, Equipments, Services and Technology for Hospitals, Laboratories, Pharmacies, Clinics and Practices. 2012 The institute attends the 5th Brazilian Congress for the Development of the Hospital Building, organized by ABDEH - Associação Brasileira para o Desenvolvimento do Edifício Hospitalar. 2013 June - IPH changes its headquarters to Rua Ministro Gastão Mesquita, 354, Perdizes. 2013 October 12 - The IPH's chairman, Jarbas Nogueira de Morais Karman, passes away. 2013 November - Ricardo Nogueira de Morais Karman is chosen the new IPH's chairmen. 2014 May - Launching of new IPH's website and the online edition of IPH's Journal. 2014 May - Launching of the celebratory book IPH: 60 Anos de História. 2014 January 25 - Celebration of IPH's 60th anniversary.
