It is with great satisfaction that I greet all the readers of the Magazine of the Institute of Hospital Research Jarbas Karman (IPH) and thank you for being with us on this special occasion: our twentieth edition.

In this signifcant milestone, we would like to express our pride in the recognition of IPH Magazine by the scientifc community, from which it stands out as one of the most well-regarded in Brazil, with the A2 grade in the last Capes/Qualis evaluation, reserved for journals of international excellence. This achievement is certainly the result of the commitment of our entire editorial team, authors, collaborators, translators, and reviewers, who have contributed to the construction and consolidation of the IPH Magazine over the last two decades.

The importance of research and science in contemporary society cannot be underestimated. Through scientifc research, we can understand, explain, and solve a wide range of complex challenges in areas such as architecture and urbanism, engineering, planning, management, and maintenance of healthcare buildings. Throughout these more than 20 years of existence, IPH Magazine has been dedicated to the mission of spreading out scientifc knowledge, serving as a fundamental vehicle for the dissemination of national and international research and studies. By providing this space, the Institute founded by Jarbas Karman shows that it remains frm in its purpose of promoting the advancement of scientific knowledge.

In this issue, we present four unpublished articles, which address diferent issues related to the hospital area and health architecture. The frst article, entitled ?Health care buildings, design and use of diagrams?, presents refections by the authors Luciana and Renato de Medeiros, researchers of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte ? UFRN, about the importance of the use of diagrams in the design-process of healthcare buildings. The authors argue about the application of diagrams as valuable tools in the development phase of complex projects, highlighting its relevance for the creative process, in the search for environments with greater resolution and quality.

The second article, ?Performance indicators as a management tool in building maintenance?, presents a case study of a university hospital located in the city of Curitiba. In this article, engineer Washington Souza, a server at the Hospital de Clínicas of the Federal University of Paraná ? UFPR, investigates the use of tools in the management of building maintenance in a large hospital, highlighting the importance of monitoring fve indicators related to building maintenance to support the decisionmaking process.

In the third article, ?Evaluation of the allocation of activities applied to an adult hospital emergency room: an analysis compared with the fndings of post-occupation evaluation?, the authors Lucas Pereira and Sheila Ornstein, members of the Research Group Quality and Performance in the Built Environment of the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo ? FAU-USP, ofer an analysis of the practices of activity allocation in hospital emergency rooms, with the help of a methodology that involves the mapping and post-occupation evaluation of a sector of within the University Hospital ? HU-USP. The authors thus seek to contribute to the management and planning of health spaces, providing a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities arising from this type of research.

The last article, ?Hospital architecture sensitive to dementia?, presents the fndings of research concerning the aspects related to dementia-sensitive architectural design for the qualifcation of the experience of the elderly in hospital settings. Researcher Ciro Férrer, from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), presents part of a more comprehensive research to identify the possibilities of using neuroscience applied to architecture in health centers and also to residential projects for the elderly.

In addition to the scientifc articles, this edition also includes a review of the book Constructing Health, the frst publication by the Canadian architect Tye Farrow, which deals with the application of neuroarchitecture and other practices and concepts related to the design of health spaces, ofering reflections on trends and innovations in health

architecture and their infuence on the well-being of patients and the efectiveness of services. As a bonus, we present an interview with the renowned architect, conducted a few days before the release of the book.

We encourage all our readers to explore the articles and other texts presented in this issue with attention and interest. We also invite researchers and professionals to contribute to the next editions of IPH Magazine by submitting their work and research, which will help to further enrich our journal and promote continuous advances in the health area.

On behalf of the entire IPH Magazine team, I wish you all a good read!
