Summary: Transparency and Contact with Patient's Safety - The Health Professional Viewpoint Dario Birolini
The lecture "Transparency and Contact with Patient's Safety - the Health Professional's viewpoint" reflected critically about our present culture and how the contemporary lifestyle affects the patient-doctor relationship. Considering the current patient's profile - wrong eating habits, sedentary life, alcoholism, smoking habits, use of drugs, competitive social life, exhausting professional life and damaged family life - there are consequences, such as obesity, shortening, sore joints, physical limitations, aggressiveness and isolation. Besides, there is the influence of the innovation & technology over the doctor's performance, the role of the pharmaceutical industry, the poor university education programs and the disease mongering. The current culture leads us to a defensive medicine, which is based on excessive exams to look for an accurate diagnosis elaborated by specialists. The lecturer suggested actions that lead to the recovery of the doctor-patient relationship that aims at treating the person and not his or her symptoms.
